Education

- Educated at Lancaster University at their teaching college in Liverpool. Where I obtained my B.Ed degree with a specialism in Special Educational Needs.

- Attended Slough Grammar School. Yes I actually went to Slough Grammar School, now I know some of you think that is a euphemism for Eton College. Well, I can tell you I didn’t go there, I actually went to the real Grammar school in Slough. Besides, I think the derogatory euphemism for Eton College is actually Slough Comprehensive School, so there!

Since graduating from Lancaster University, I have obtained a City and Guilds qualification in Amateur Radio, gained a certificate in Counselling Skills, a Diploma in Coaching, the European Computer Driving Licence and Prince 2 foundation qualification.

Having been good at languages at school (I speak French and Spanish to varying degrees), I also taught myself Makaton; a sign-language for SEN pupils.

Also during the 1980s, I taught myself basic programming and went on to produce the Touchscreen Support Pack to enable Young Learners to operate computers just by touching the screen, and also Young Start, a basic suite of computer programs using a conceptual keyboard rather than the usual QWERTY keyboard; this program was shown on TV!
