On Seeing a Flower Frozen in Frost
Today I saw the first flower flattened
By the frosty frozen foot of winter.
Is it a mem’ry of pleasantness past
Or a harbinger of what is to come?
Think back to summers and springs I have had
Sunlit in smiles and warmly relaxing.
Imagine dim dull winters lie ahead
Dreary days of darkness drawn out and dead.
What folly we see in floral freezing
The responsibility we deny
Our fate and destiny are not our guide
But our own choices and acts shall decide.
The future of our lives and of our land
Lies in the choices we take and we plan.
